Public Trustee’s Department is not merely a some other department in Sri Lanka. It is a Public Institution being renovated continuously according to the needs of economical, social, welfare requirements in modern years and also devoted to perform the services of the general public. It may be the contentful outcome of our sincere efforts that made by way of confirming the faith of general public in regard to the activities of the Public Trustee’s Department done in official level during the past 75 years.
The interest taken to attend to the duties effectively and efficiently in a busy background by performing a valuable public service is a treatment gone beyond rules and regulations. It is our policy to attend to their future needs of persons who have trusted and entrusted the management of their valuable wealth for their entire satisfaction.
A brief glimpse of the services rendered by us in performing the efforts to fulfill the expectations of great men who have entrusted all their wealth to the Public Trustee which had been earned throughout their life time or entitled to them from their ancestors could be classified as hereunder:

Grant of medical aids, charity and poor relief |
| |
The medical aids division, on consideration of valuable and superfine services to be rendered to the poor patients have granted benefits up to 50,000 of grantees under this scheme.

Award of Scholaships |
| |
Among the services done by us, the award of scholarships takes a prominent place. During the past 2 years we have awarded more than 3000 scholarships. We were above to perform a valuable service of this nature as a result of Estates entrusted to the Department by the great people. |

Our aims upon grant of these scholarships |
| |
To assist the children of under 18 years of age from low income groups and form the families who have suffered form the Tsunami tidal waves in order to proceed with their educational matters.
The donation of scholarships are donated based on the following facts that have been indentified. |

- 1 st year up to G.C.E.A/L Examination.
- University students
- Students who are having special merits
- To the pupils of Dhamma Schools in order to restore the Buddhist education in Sri Lanka

Programme of 1000 new Scholarships |
| |
By now the programme of awarding 1000 scholarships has already begun under the trusts that have been established in our department by the Donators.
Selections of suitable candidates:
A general form has been introduced for the selection of scholars. This project is open to the children of families of low income groups. They must be form incongenial areas with low income families. |

At the rate of Rs.300/= per month for school children.
At the rate of Rs.500/= per month for university students.
Duration
It is scheduled to grant this scholarship until the end of educational period of the scholarship holders. |

Restoration of Religious Affairs |
| |
Our contribution towards the promotion of religious affairs on having fulfilled the aims of Religious Trusts is very important. |

Supply of necessary funds for the offerings done to the Sri Dalada and preservation of ‘Mahamaluwa‘ out of the money taken from the said Trust. |

Supply of funds for effecting repairs to the old viharas and Dagobas (Pagodas) |
| |
|
White – washing of Ruwanweliseya stupa through the Preservation Trust set up for the said purpose on having expending approximately a sum of Rs.2 million out of the donations made by the devotees. |

Maintenance and effecting developments to Konanagar Kovil through the Kovil fund set up for the said purposes on having expent monies derived from the properties of said Kovil. |

At the time of acquisition of lands from Buddhist temples by the government the compensation received in place thereof are being sent to the Public Trustee. And payment out of such money is made to the development of said temples upon approval of the Commissioner of Buddhist Affairs. |

This trust has been founded with the idea of preservation of old Temples
which exposes the grandeour of the history of Sri Lanka. |

This Trust has been established to preserve the Ruwanweliseya for the future generation. |

Programme for assisting the Vihara and Temples |
| |
Necessary steps the taken for the formation of this programme to donate a sum of Rs.25,000/= to 50 or the temples who are having lesser facilities in order to make good the existing shortcomings in such temples. |

Selection of suitable temples |
| |
|
|
One temple from each district will be selected upon recommendations of the District Secretary. |
| |
|
|
The remaining viharas will be selected as per facilities available and priority of making applications. |

Administration of Agricultural Property |
| |
We are continuously taking steps take care of agricultural property or trusts and estates in the manner of fulfilling the primary objectives of trusts and development of such property with a minimum cost. we are also taking steps increase the productivity of agricultural property continuously and we have been successful in such efforts and also have been able to provide employment opportunities to several people.
The entire acrage or the extent of land vested unto the Public Trustee exceeds 1000 acres by the trust settors with good faith and trustworthyness upon the department for taking

Foreign Compensation |
| |
Public trustee is the whole responsible legal person for the compensation of foreign employees on their death. Someone died in off shore, the entitlements (death compensation) will be forwarded to the public trustee, and will act as custodian trustee for the compensations. Public trustee has performed these functions satisfactorily by the distribution of such monies without undue delay, although it involved the conduct of inquiries and the ascertainment of claims. Up to now we have handled about 1935 such cases. Our first and foremost obligation is to serve for the Sri Lankan. |

Fulfilling The Objectives Of Personal Trust Settlors |
| |
We have been able to win the hearts of personal trust settlors by being appeared as Custodian Trustee of nearly 350 Estates / Trusts of trust settlors who have established their trusts in order to get their future objectives fulfilled at their discretion. We are bound with them for the safe custody and maintenance their estates and the same time we pay our maximum contribution for development of said estates. |
